LapLink PC Mover

Now this sounds like great electronic gadget. At least I hoped it was going to be. I purchased the LapLink PC mover new on ebay for a reasonable price.

I bought it knowing I was getting my new laptop (which by the way I received and love it), and wanted an easy way to transfer files from my old laptop to my new one.

The PC mover not only can move files but also programs from the old computer to the new one. It also came with an easy transfer USB cable.

This is where my problems started. My old laptop has only USB 1.1 drives, my new one of course has USB 2.0 drives. The cable only supports USB 2.0. I tried to find a transfer cable that could transfer files from USB 1.1 to 2.0 but apparently it can't be done. I even tried an extension cable that speeds up a USB 1.1 and is compatible with all USB drives unless the drives don't match.

So I spend the good part of a day trying to get the transfer cables to work. But, LapLink can also transfer files and programs over a network.

I then try to set up a local network between my two laptops. I succeed at doing this and both laptops show I have them on my local network, so I then try to transfer files and programs from my old laptop to my new laptop and everything seems to be going okay, but the the PC Mover program cannot locate my new computer. I spend hours trying to do this and I can't get it to work.

But,,,,, LapLink PC Mover has a third option..... you can transfer your files and programs through files. PC Mover gathers all your files and programs and you save them at 600 mb per file, I use a usb stick, and transfer the files from the old computer to the new one, 17 times. I copied absolutely everything I had on my old computer to my new one. Before I unload the Moving Truck, I realized I don't want everything from my old computer on my new one, it's just too much stuff I don't need most of it anymore. This method doesn't let you choose what to transfer and not to transfer, So I decide that's it I give up.

If you are looking for a program that will move everything from your old pc to your new pc and both have USB 2.0, it's a great gadget. It is different than anything else out there because it can move actual programs not just files.

Be aware it may not be as easy as it seems, specifically if you can't use the transfer cable.
